Lebogang Tlhako

Coming from Katlehong, in Johannesburg, South Africa, Lebogang Tlhako emerges as a contemporary photographer and entrepreneur. 

Throughout her career in the creative sector of the country, Tlhako is an alumni of the Market Photo Workshop and is currently part of the mentorship programme with Throught theLens Collective.

Tlhako’s amazing work has been featured at the Iziko Museum, Unseen Amsterdam Photo Fair,Nice magazine and Underline Projects. Furthermore, Tlhako took part in the Lampost Luminaries upskill programme aimed at fast-tracking African womxn photographers and videographers in 2020

 

In 2021, Tlhako showcased Sibadala Sibancane. A solo exhibition curated by Fulufhelo Mobadi who was awarded the first curatorial research fellowship granted for African projects. Lebogang Tlhako’s series Sibadala Sibancane is a collection of photographs which speak about her relationship with her mother and how it has influenced and shaped her growth into a young woman. Tlhako brings back the nostalgia in album making by creating collages that layer images from her mother’s photo album with cut outs of portraits of young children and landscapes from her community and environment.
