Theko
Boshomane was born in Polokwane, Limpopo in 1989. Fascinated by the notion of creating
art that is poetic, Boshomane opted to take up a degree in Fine Arts at The Tshwane University of Technology. After completing his B-tech in Fine Arts in
2012, Boshomane created artworks that were a representation of the pain of
childhood experiences of being bullied. He explores the influence of those
formative years in the way he finds himself interacting socially, spiritually, and emotionally in his adult years.
His
work has evolved into a self-healing process, which is an artistic exchange of
hope between the artist and those who engage with the work.
Theko
has since participated in several exhibitions with galleries such as the Absa
Art Gallery, Everard Read and the Pretoria Art Museum, Goethe Institute and
Oatskiop in the USA, California. In 2013, he entered the Absa L’Atelier art competition
in which he exhibited as a top 100 artist finalist. In the same year, Theko was
awarded the Sasol New Signatures art competition merit award.
Theko
currently resides in Johannesburg where he creates and exhibits his art ranging
from drawings and paintings to printmaking,
videos and installation.
